Kenny "Kenflo" Florian is from Massachusetts though he was born to parents of South American origin. Florian was an excellent athlete and played college soccer. Later he developed a passion for Brazilian jiu-jitsu and was awarded his black belt.
Florian has traveled to Brazil often to train, and on one such occasion was hiking a mountain in Rio de Janeiro when he slipped off a rock to a nearly fatal fall. Florian tells that this experience showed him how fleeting life can be, and at this point decided to abandon his day job to concentrate on what made him most happy, which was mixed martial arts.
Florian was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter Season 1. Florian lost in the finals via TKO to Diego Sanchez.
