Royce Gracie
Country of origin:
Brazil
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 176
Birth date: 1966-12-12
Record: 14-3-3
Profile:
Likely the most well-known member of the famous Gracie family, Royce was chosen to represent the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the first UFC, which was then partly owned by his brother Rorion. The small-framed Royce went on a rampage against opponents, dismantling fighter after fighter using his submission-based attacks which favored leverage and technique over strength and power. His accomplishments in mixed martial arts are likely the biggest inspiration for the worldwide spread of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
In early 2007 he fought Matt Hughes, a match which Hughes won by referee stoppage. His next match was against Kazushi Sakuraba. It was after this fight that the California State Athletic Commission claimed that Royce had failed the drug tests for banned substances, and that he had extremely high levels of nandrolone.
Like his younger brother Royler Gracie, Royce smiles often and is approachable. He enjoys hunting and gadgets, like the Palm Treo and iPod. Royce is married and has three children.
