UFC 319 Main Card

Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev

It’s rare to see a current UFC champion paying +202 to win, especially one with the record of du Plessis, but Chimaev is a unique talent, and that’s why he’s the dominant –245 favorite to win the middleweight title.

We feel as though du Plessis has been a placeholder for the title, which was always going to be Chimaev’s to win and retain, potentially for a few years. He is an excellent fighter with good power and a brilliant submission game, so he’s tough to beat all round.

The South African champion can’t be overlooked. Du Plessis has fought some of the best to ever compete, including Israel Adesanya, and he has explosive power. However, he’s likely to get caught by Chimaev, who could take him to the ground and end the fight abruptly with a sub.

Prediction: Khamzat Chimeav by Sub (+175)

Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico

It came as a surprise to see Aaron Pico so heavily favored to beat Lerone Murphy, but the hype around Bellator fighters could wear off on Saturday.

We rate Pico as a solid fighter, but there is nothing wrong with the record of Murphy, who is the +150 underdog with the latest UFC odds. Murphy is 16-0-1, and he looks like a featherweight with title ambitions.

Pico is 13-4, and whilst he has scored some eye-catching wins in Bellator, we expect Murphy’s experience in the UFC to play a big part. We don’t think Pico is the new Michael Chandler, so bettors should snap up the underdog odds with Murphy.

Prediction: Lerone Murphy (+150)

Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates

Our UFC 319 predictions have another upset on the card with Geoff Neal, whose veteran status could be too much for Carlos Prates to handle.

Neal got back in contention with a knockout win over Rafael dos Anjos last year, and although he hasn’t fought since October, he could make a winning return against Prates, who lost to Ian Machado Garry in his most recent fight.

Both fighters have losses to Machado Garry, so we’re not sure why Neal is paying +194 to win. It’s an excellent price with UFC odds today, and we’re happy to back another underdog to win on the UFC 319 card.

Prediction: Geoff Neal (+194)

Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page

Michael Page is a 23-3 fighter, who dominated Bellator before coming to the UFC. Despite not quite living up to the hype, he deserves to be favorite against Jared Cannonier.

We believe Page only needs to avoid getting knocked out in the first round to win. Page is a smart fighter, who likes to keep his distance and throw wild combinations. That tactic should work against Cannonier, who prefers a more physical fight.

There is always a worry that Page isn’t taking the fight seriously, but it’s a PPV event, so he should be focused. The –195 odds are worth including in UFC 319 parlay picks.

Prediction: Michael Page (-195)

Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura

We think most people felt bad for Kai Asakura when he had to fight Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight title in his UFC debut.

It was a great opportunity for the Japanese fighter, but he was thrown to the wolves far too early. We’re not sure what Dana White was thinking, but Asakura is a good fighter, and facing guys like Tim Elliott is a much smarter decision for his career.

Elliott shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to the 31-year-old, who is the short –300 favorite, and those odds should be justified on Saturday. He’s an excellent parlay bet inclusion.

Prediction: Kai Asakura (-300)
